I started physical therapy last week. It’s a dizziness and balance clinic (who knew that was a thing?). She gave me some exercises to do ahead of surgery to “wake up” my brain on the right side. It has basically gotten sleepy due to my loss of hearing and my brain is trying to compensate to more input on my left side.
I am supposed to walk and turn my head from side to side every 3 steps. So if you see me walking down the street like that… LOL. You might also find me standing in a corner with my eyes closed, trying to not wobble!
I have been getting pretty big dizzy spells a few times a week. They only last a few minutes, but it’s like I’m floating around in space. She told me to have some 5 lb. ankle weights on hand and put them on my shoulders to help my brain feel grounded. That’s one heavy purse to lug around! Yoga has also become quite challenging. I can’t seem to balance and it will probably take some time post surgery to get that back.
I have also found out who my neurosurgeon will be. He kind of has a Stanley Tucci vibe, don’t you think? Dr. A Samy Youssef
