We are on our 39th hour of driving, so I’ve had lots of time to think! For 2024, I truly want to let go of what I thought my life “should” be and embrace what is.
My last post was full of shoulds. It’s a pattern I’ve been stuck in for the past 20 years.
This visit to North Carolina has shown me the beauty of “what is.” What is – is unique, it’s creative, it’s beautiful, it’s wild, it’s creative. It’s nothing like what I thought it would be and yet it’s everything. I see the beauty in being different. Ella is experiencing things at her age that most kids will never experience. She’s learning valuable life skills, she’s learning compassion and empathy, she’s very in-tune with animals and learning how to work with them therapeutically. She’s meeting all kinds of people from all backgrounds. All this is pretty darn amazing! She’s quirky, hilarious, bold and unique and I want to celebrate that more.
We took her to get a split dye (which she picked out) and she looks awesome!

Kyl got to get in the ring and work with Bones, the wild mustang. Bones knows Ella and they have developed trust, which was so cool to see.

We got to sit in on group therapy and hear everyone’s adoption stories and offer insight from a parent’s perspective. So interesting to hear about the struggles of others and see how they are different than your own.
So for 2024, I’m going to choose to evolve. Embrace what is. Let go of what I thought my life should be. Hope you all enjoyed the holidays! ✨
