Stability

Kyl again. Got the word last night that she was on for surgery today but they weren’t sure about the schedule so she should be ready for a call anytime from 5am or after. We waited all morning and finally got the call a little before noon.

Surgery went fine but since they couldn’t find anything obviously wrong with the patch in the two areas they commonly suspect the leak to spring from they have to put a lumbar drain in. They took some extra measures to patch things up this time. The lumbar drain will allow the fluid (assuming it continues to leak) to find the path of least resistance so that whatever needs to heal in her head can do so without that additional pressure. Belt & suspenders so that she doesn’t have to go through this again.

They’ll keep the tap open and monitor it for now, then Monday they’ll close it, let it fill up, and make sure it’s not leaking out her nose any more. Fingers crossed she gets out on Tuesday from what the doctor just relayed to me. They said pain shouldn’t be an issue but having to sit in the hospital until Tuesday with a tube coming out of her back won’t be fun or comfortable – mostly just because she’s stuck in a hospital room.

This doesn’t affect her overall recovery in any meaningful way but morale may not be the greatest having to sit around here more. Hopefully this is the last major speed bump on her road to recovery…
