What’s your name? When is your birthday? What month is it? Who is the president? Where are you? Why are you here?
I got asked those questions over and over, by teams of doctors. It was surreal how many different people were in and out of my room. Some were actually on my care team, but the majority were roving groups of fellows, residents and students. They would swoop in, ask the questions, shine lights in my eyes, make me squeeze their fingers, make me smile my weird Frankenstein smile, and then swoop out. In the neuro unit, if I had to use the bathroom, they would come and tie a seatbelt around my waist since I was labeled a “fall risk.” That felt like a little much and we eventually talked them into letting Kyl lead me in there. I quickly became the favorite patient for that reason alone! It was fascinating to hear about all of the other people and what they were dealing with.
So for all those reasons, I’m very happy to be home. The drain is out, but my head is hurting way more this time. It’s going to take a few days for the pressure to build back up and stabilize. I feel like I’m starting over. I’m so stiff and I know I have to try moving my head around but it hurts so bad. I’ll keep reminding myself to be patient and that last time it was a good two weeks before I truly started feeling better. 😞
Your kind words and encouragement are helping so much, so thank you.
